it IS reading the card, it is failing to verify a signature..anyone know?
Same issue here. I tried downloading it from the phone in 3 browsers, renaming with ASTRO, OI File Manager, downloading from Windows XP PC, and copying to SD card at least twice. Verified the checksum didn't change from my local copy to the one copied onto the SD card, it just won't work. I've follow the process to the letter but when it attempts to install the update.zip it says full-file signature verification failed. If it's an MD5 hash issue, can someone else post their checksum so I can verify if I'm not getting the right file or what?

    Anyone else had this issue?

    Opening update package...
    Verifying update package...
    E:failed to verify whole-file signature

For people that this isn't working. Your doing it wrong.

    1. Rename file without extracting to "update"
    2. Move to file to your SD card. (Root Folder)
    3. Turn off your phone.
    4. Turn on your phone while holding the track ball key.
    5. Use Volume Key to Navigate and press power button to select "bootloader"
    6. Select "recovery"
    7. On the screen with a android and a yield sign press power button and press volume up key without holding.
    8. Use trackball and select apply update.
Follow those steps TO THE POINT and you will not run into any trouble.

That is EXACTLY what I've done (a dozen different times now). And I keep getting this error. If I wasn't following the directions right, I wouldn't be at that screen and it wouldn't find the update file to process as it does. Here's exactly what the screen says:

    E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

I got the same error message here...which sucks.

I'll just wait for the update notification to come. Hopefully it's after I post this.

Well it took me a while but i finally was able to figure out what I was doing wrong in the manual update.. I have windows 7 and renaming the file to update.zip didn't work for me. If you have windows 7 just rename the file to update and it will work fine.

Haha, if you have windows and you're hiding file extensions, naming it update.zip will in reality name it update.zip.zip. So if you are a windows user hiding extensions you will only name it "update" nothing more, nothing less..

Are you on a mac the extension .zip will show, and then the whole name should be update.zip.

I also have windows 7, and did this to the tee, and every which way Sunday. What finally worked for me, believe it or not, was titleling the zip with all CAPS "UPDATE" (not UPDATE. ZIP, just UPDATE) and that was what finally worked for me.

Love the pinch zoom, but not really noticing an improvement on 3G (I already had google googles.

If you have windows it is already a zip so naming it update.zip is really naming it update.zip.zip which is why some people are having a problem.

Also to clear things up for those scared to do a manual update-
-It is the exact same thing you would get if u did an OTA update (saves file to SD card then installs it), just automatically.
-It can't be tampered with by other websites and be correctly installed (it must be signed to install)

So if you dont want to wait don't be worried you will mess up your phone, if you follow instructions you won't harm it.
