    Nexus S 3g vs 4g

    Hi,

I'm debating if I should stick with TMobile or should switch to Simple Mobile.

The difference is TMobile is 4G, while Simple Mobile is 3G and super cheap (60 bones for everything including tax).

I've read a lot of technical articles about this topic, including advertised 4G is not really 4G according to International standards. I'm still not sure if there is a noticeable difference. Wondering what your non-technical, hands-on experience was.

What is the maximum speed Nexus S can handle.
Have you tried the two side by side and have seen a major difference worth staying with TMobile?

    Thanks.

The nexus S is not 4G nor is it hspa+ it is just 3G. hspa+ is what the people are saying in those technical articles you are talking about it is between 3G and 4G but the nexus S does not support any of that so you will have the same 3G you have now.

    Hi,

Let me rephrase my question. Is there a noticeable difference in speeds between standard 3G and HSPA+ (the incorrectly so called 4G).

    Thanks.

Again, the nexus doesn't support HSPA+, just regular 3g. Yes, HSPA+ is theoretically faster than standard 3g networks, but as said before, the Nexus S does not support HSPA+ or 4g in any way shape or form. Does not matter if T-Mobile has a 4g network setup, you are still going to be using the old 3g towers, AKA no 4g on the Nexus S.

I say if the cheaper plan has good coverage in your area, go for it.

Awesome. Glad to hear it worked out for you. I also just recently switched from one of the 'larger carriers' to one of the new upstarts because of insanely good plan prices. Join the club!

I have measure on next to the HSPA + tower on my Nexus S 4 to 5 megs up and downloads speed, when I get a mile away speed can drop to 600 or 700 k, morning rush hours download can drop to edge rates for downloads and 2 megs for upload.
