OTA updates for Nexus S (WiFi only)

Excuse me but I am new to the Android world (5 weeks and counting) for asking a bunch of questions after searching the forum. I bought the Nexus S unlocked from Bestbuy and for now do not plan on activating it with T-Mobile, just plan on using it via WiFi only. Will I be able to receive OTA updates this way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Heres my guess...(correct me if im wrong) I depends on the rom version you have. If its a stock rom, yes. If your rom is tweaked by the carrier, no.

But signed updates can be downloaded over the net and installed on your device with the passimg and update.zip method.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am hoping since this an unlocked phone even though there is a T-Mobile sim card in the box, that it is a stock ROM. In other words I am hoping that is what the Ad means by saying it is pure google.
    Thanks for the info., Jeff

For the Nexus S, you will receive the OTA updates automatically as long as you are connected to the Internet somehow. I've been on Wifi and received updates on my Nexus One just fine.

Although usually I just download the updates and manually update. That way hasn't been a problem either.

Ads are not the garantee that you have a stock rom. Look in your phone settings----about phone, if stock, it should say frg33, frg83d or frg83g under the rom version...

If the rom is tweaked, the carrier is sending out the ota, not Google.

My Build number says GRH55, is that the ROM version?

Looks like you have a stock gingerbread rom. Updates should come your way when avail.
