Second Screen Using "Direct" WiFi (No Server)

    Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a app or way to use my tablet as a second screen, laptop (win7) to tablet (android 4) using "direct" wifi.
Application: to run navigation software on a boat using a bluetooth mouse operating a laptop in the cabin. The tablet would be the secondary display unit in the cockpit.
The "standard" screen sharing apps seem to all utilize a common wifi server (wifi modem) and don't allow for "direct" communication.
    Thanks for any help, Joe

Joe, try installing Connectify on your laptop.

It will create an access point your tablet can connect to.

Then use Splashtop 2 (free) app on your tablet. You will need to install the Splashtop server on your PC and you can use your tablet as a mirrored display of your PC.

Re: Second Screen Using "Direct" WiFi (No Server)

Welcome ozflyer! Have you tried looking at the charting software available in the Play Store built exclusively for android devices? I'm mobile now, but go to the Play Store on your nexus 4, and search for "navionics"... they're a bit expensive, but I haven't heard anything bad about their apps. If the price is a little steep for your budget, just search for "noaa chart" and a ton of apps will pop up. You can try any paid app (even the navionics apps) for 15 minutes before your return window closes (Google's policy), so make sure you're on a good connection to download the full app and get the most out of your trial.

Concerning your exact question, I don't think using a tablet as a second monitor is part of its capabilities... ghetto, at least)... I would recommend a Remote Desktop app to achieve what you're describing. My favorite is TeamViewer (Play Store link) and (desktop site link).

    Happy boating!
