Thanks a lot !
This is a discussion on Captivate Root within the Samsung Captivate Hacking forums, part of the Samsung Captivate category; Thanks a lot !...
In the market, there is an app called "One Click Lag Fix. Easiest war to root. Designed specifically fire Galaxy S phones. No computer required.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant Overclocked to 1.6GHz. Please excuse my Swype.
Everything on my captivate workes great, camera included, only thing, had to put in txt messager # as it was blank, took about 45 secs after googling for messenger # changed GPS web link searcher, took awhile to finally lock but now locks faster than before, also if you know anything about android, (I'm a newbie) SGS (Samsung Galaxy S) Toolbox, Tools, and Unlock Tool works great too
I have the homebrew froyo on my Captivate and am trying all sorts of root methods. Each attempt gives me the "signature verification failed. Installation aborted" message. Is there another way to go root after the froyo workaround? obtw the baseband is I897UCJI6 kernel version:184.108.40.206 Build number: FROYO.UCJI6. Please advise!
after finally about 25 tries i just about gave up. ive tried capitals, ive tried lowercase letters and i made sure i didnt type .zip.zip i just dont get it, the phone finds it but after choosing reinstall packages all i can get is --install from sdcard...finding update package....opening update package... E:cant open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
Via USB I cannot get the Update.zip over to my Captivate I897 UCJH7, 2.1 eclair. Using my desktop USB with Linux Ubuntu or an XP mini laptop, USB transfer to the phone seems impossible. But, it does seem to transfer via BlueTooth with the XP mini laptop (Acer Aspire).
Using BT transfer and activating "recovery" I am still left without a root button.
I am missing something here but cannot see it?! What do you suggest? This is very much like the previous post #56.
This is from the Recovery screen on the phone:
Install from sdcard...
finding update packages...
opening update package...
E: can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Also, to enable USB file transfers, on your Captivate go to Settings --> Applications --> Development --> and check USB Debugging. Now when you plug your phone into a computer, unlock it and drag the notification bar down then select USB file transfer.
Nicely said. That does it because my Captivate is now "Rooted". I used BlueTooth for the file transfer but I expect USB would also have done it correctly too. Others
should remember to type only "update" when renaming the downloaded (...dropbox...) file.
Again, thanks Dorian....................... you make the impossible, possible.
^No problem. Glad it worked for you!
