I wouldn't say it was the root that went bad, so much as you didn't have a lagfix activated. The galaxy s ships with the RFS file system which is single threaded and journaled. With single threaded filesystems, over time and with the installation of more apps, they get progressively slower and slower. Also, being single threaded, only one app can access NAND at a time, so if you have a bunch of apps and user data they have to form a sort of queue to wait to get their data off storage.

Lag fix is not an app. It's an option with your rooted phone settings through the rom manager you are using. Read this pst again, it will tell you how to change the "lag fix" settings.

By app, are you talking about the One Click Lag Fix (OCLF) from the market? Generally though, just what I would usually recommend is that if you want to root and use a lagfix, backup your personal data like your texts and call logs... factory restore your phone with the ODIN One Click Restore, then apply ROOT and the lagfix before adding any personal data back. That way if you run into any issues, you know its nothing like app conflicts or corrupted data. Rooting and lagfixes are always more reliable and trouble free when initially applied to a "clean slate".

    Hi Dorian,

I just upgraded my phone SGH-I897 to 2.2. Can you provide step-by-step how I can do a "shell root then perma-root" ? I am a newbie.

I tried the One Click Root it does not work. It is giving me a E-Signature error. Please advise.

    Thank you.

If you're on the AT&T stock (garbage) version of 2.2, you want SuperOneClick instead of One Click Root. [APP]SuperOneClick v1.9.5 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App) - xda-developers

    update zip file?

Hello. I'm new to the forum. I'm also new to smartphones--I just got my samsung captive in the mail today. I really want to unlock the phone, and I've been following the pdf guide recommended on "Newbies Guide" sticky. Everything goes okay till I get to the part that this sticky addresses, installing the update.zip file. The xdadevelopers link provided in the pdf is broken, and so is the link on the OP here. I've been trying to search around for this file but I can't find it anywhere. I didn't find anything on the xdadevelopers site when I tried searching there, too.

    Can anyone help here? Thanks.
