Good luck with that. From what I understand the i9000 2.3 source code leaves a lot to be desired.

Yea... it's not that great, but it is better than nothing.

Definitely better than nothing. Running beta 2 kernel from xcal onXDA and running stock JVB with your GB launcher (not a fan of thestock TWlauncher) and gingerbread mod keyboard, friggin awesome!! Runs betterthan any 2.2 or 2.2.1 I've come across... just need to get reorientation fixed:D Can't wait to see what you can do with it Dorian!

Can't stand the TW Launcher either. Was curious about xcal's kernal. Better than the cm7 and miui kernals (i realize they're technically nexus s kernals)?

The xcal kernel is the stock JVB Gingerbread that just released for the I9000. It is built from the sources so its completely different than CM7 and miui (I think they are built from the same build tree as each other). Xcal's kernel is Samsung framework so it has all the drivers and what not that CM7 and miui is missing. Battery has been great so far (1 charge cycle, still too early to tell) and overall runs a lot better than 2.2.

The only thing I don't like, ATM, is that you have to flash Gingerbread bootloaders to use JVB. When people talk about bricking a phone, hardcore, that's usually what gets messed up. Unless I absolutely have to, or I know that they're 99.99% stable with a fully functioning recovery, I stay away from flashing bootloaders.

But yep... MIUI is built on top of CM7. So all the CM7 kernels are compatible with MIUI (with odd quirks here and there because of major framework differences).

I'm compiling my own kernel for Gingerbread, and I'm going by the book on this one. When I feel like the chances of bricking your phone by flashing my ROM is practically nil, then I'll post one up.

Well I know every one appreciates your work Dorian, one thing though on the flashing bootloaders. I have read that once you flash the new bootloader for gingerbread, you no longer can use 3 button recovery. Is this true that you know of?

Glad I've got a jig. Haha. But seriously I'm glad to see you're making your own kernel. I look forward to the beta.

Well, there is still 3 button recovery, but since you're basically flashing the i9000 bootloader, you have to use the i9000 key combination... vol-, menu, and power.
