    - The Gingerbread Beta Thread -

So, this is pretty much just like the other beta thread, only this one is for only Gingerbread builds.

First out is XWJVB 2.3.3... Also, this one is a bit more complicated than the Froyo ROM's to install, and some of your basics change in the process.

    **VERY IMPORTANT**
Once flashed with the new Gingerbread bootloaders...
    Recovery is Vol+ and Power.
Download Mode is Vol- and USB Plug.

Also, to go back to stock for whatever reason... should only be done with the ODIN-3 One Click restore. Otherwise you're looking at hard permanent bricking your device.

Without further ado... here it is!

    JVB - Beta1 - Download Here

Installation instructions couldn't have been posted any better than what MikeyMike laid out so here they are quoted...

    1. Download this package.

    2. Open Odin3 1.7

    3. Select the PDA, PHONE, CSC, and PIT files in their correct spots

    4. Connect phone in download mode

    5. Ensure that Auto-reboot and Re-Partition are both checked. These have a tendency to change after plugging the phone in, so double check before you hit start.

    6. This is where the bootloader will be flashed, along with stock Gingerbread. Hit Start.

    7. Allow the phone to boot.

    8. Close Odin3, and open a fresh one. Select Reorient_Kernel_1.1 in the PDA box.

    9. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or hold Vol Down + Power)

    10. Plug the phone into the computer.

    11. MAKE SURE RE-PARTITION IS NOT CHECKED. If it is, you'll soft-brick and have to start over.

    12. Flash the kernel (hit start).

    13. Once the phone reboots, place "Dorian's JVB Beta1.1" ROM .zip onto the SD Card.

    14. Reboot into Recovery (adb reboot recovery, or Vol Up + Power)

    15. Flash ROM with CWM

    16. Enjoy!
Just in case anyone is wondering, to get Gingerbread to boot we have to flash a complete i9000 boot environment... including Partition Mapping and bootloaders. Since we have to do that, we have to actually flash the stock OEM version of Samsung's XWJVB first, then install the custom ROM on top of it. Promise though, once the process is complete, you'll really love Gingerbread. It's literally as smooth as glass... smoother even than any of my Froyo ROM's, like JK3 or JS5/JS8. I have to admit, Samsung did their homework on this one.

So for restoring back to default again.. We are talking

[STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY - xda-developers

    Correct?

Question to anyone flashing this.. Is this worth going to right now or any issues that would make this not a daily driver?? IE always FCing and such.. I understand Beta.. And just want to know a problem or two.. Rebooting once a day is all fine.. Just want to get impressions..

    Correct?
Yes. Seems like odin will flash you back to stock from anything you throw at your phone.

Quick Question as this is a different version of gingerbread since it is the samsung stock build does this mean that the 720p HD Video recording will be an option? Also, does this mean everything will be functioning the way it would on your other froyo roms? (well minus occasional bugs that happen)

Unless Dorian says different, he put for whatever reason use odin one click

You do not need to flash back to stock if you already have Gingerbread bootloader. Just do a factory wipe/reset in CWM and then flash the beta.

As for the 720p, this is not CM7, this is a Samsung ROM so all normal features and functions from Samsung you come to love should be there.

Dorian, any plans on JVH when a kernel comes out for it? I saw that released a few days ago for I9000 but I have not seen anyone do anything with it on XDA (other than the I9000 forum)
