Whatís This? AT&T Showing Froyo on the Captivate Right Under Our Noses

Adding insult to injury, if you head over to AT&Tís support page for the Samsung Captivate and look at the how-to for finding your OS and firmware versions you might notice that the phone they are using as an example features Android 2.2. Iím not going to beat a dead horse explaining how notorious Samsung has become in the Android world for failing to deliver updates in the manner and timeliness promised, but this has to be some kind of cruel joke. Either that or some shining beacon of hope in a torrid sea of lies and letdowns.
Dramatics aside, maybe it is a good sign. Somewhere in the depths of AT&T there is a Captivate running Android 2.2 Froyo. Or AT&T ganked the images straight from Samsung. Who can really say? Weíll label it an oddity for now.

I love how all these sites like Engadget, BGR, and Phandroid, spread all this info that it's Samsung that's witholding the 2.2 update. It's the CARRIERS. AT&T has had a fully functional Froyo build for a while now. Trust me.

I'm with Dorian. Sammy may do the testing for the carriers, but the carriers have had Froyo for quite some time now.

I've read that it's been AT&T also. It seems they've had Froyo for a couple of months.

The question is, what they heck is AT&T waiting for?

I'm guessing the same thing that kept the Xperia X10 2.1 update delayed.... nothing at all but board room approval. Just think of how many more phones they'll get new contracts on because of people dumping their X10 for newer and better.
