Android.net is the premier Android Forum on the internet.
Settings>applications> unknown sources box checked.
Downloading should be allowed anyway -- installing's another matter entirely.
If it's giving you a file type unknown error you'll want a file manager from the Market. I suggest Astro.

1st I don't have the open source option. 2nd I'm not intrested in using another complex app to access other apps. I just want to access third party apps reguarlly. Thanks.

I need to perform a OTA update to get the option to do 3rd party downloading, but I don't have the option to update OTA? Help! Plz!!

Only way I was able to update my Samsung was through the use of either Kies or Odin. There is a great tutorial video on youtube on how to use Odin.
As long as I've been on the InterToobz you'd think I'd remember YouTube.
