    3rd party app downloading

    How do I allow 3rd party app downloading on my Captivate? I have 2.2 its not rooted, and if it can only be performed by rooting tell me, but I'd rather not. Thanks.

    Downloading should be allowed anyway -- installing's another matter entirely.

    If it's giving you a file type unknown error you'll want a file manager from the Market. I suggest Astro.

    1st I don't have the open source option. 2nd I'm not intrested in using another complex app to access other apps. I just want to access third party apps reguarlly. Thanks.

    I need to perform a OTA update to get the option to do 3rd party downloading, but I don't have the option to update OTA? Help! Plz!!

    1) Then you need an apk installer.

    2) See point 1.

    3) I was trying to get it so you could install the apps so you can access them from your launcher. I apologize if you misunderstood me.

    If you think an apk installer app is too complex (which Astro isn't; it's a file manager) then you really don't want to look into Kies or ODIN.

    Only way I was able to update my Samsung was through the use of either Kies or Odin. There is a great tutorial video on youtube on how to use Odin.
