How To: Flash Android 2.2 on the AT&T Captivate

Brand new Android 2.2 leak for the Captivate!

Go look at my article on BriefMobile for screenshots... but here's the basic procedure. Very easy... one click flash.

    Instructions
    What you’ll need:

    Process:

    1. Download the Android 2.2 Froyo update from designgears (.exe ODIN flasher)
    2. Open the .exe file on your Windows PC
    3. Put your phone into download mode by turning it off, holding down the volume keys and plugging the phone into your computer
    4. The .exe from designgears should now recognize your phone.
    5. Click “Start” to begin!
    6. Once it’s done, let it reboot itself up!

Ok, now where are all my apps?

Edit: I'm getting the manually as the market seems to know what I've previously installed.
    Edit2: Found them all. :D

Been trying to follow the thread over there but it is already 82+ pages long. I was able to DL Odin 1 click and it opens, i get the phone to the DOWNLOAD screen but Odin does not seem to see the phone at all so when I hit start it says Zero Success/ Zero failures. I noticed that the phone is NOW showing up as GADGET in WinXP. Any ideas? Have your heard/read about a update dot zip file for captivate froyo 2.2 yet?

The first question would be USB drivers?

For anyone interested, I have read the new Skype app will not run on the Captivate with 2.1. However, I can confirm that it will work using this "leaked" 2.2 release in both WiFi and 3G modes. Good news for heavy Skype users.

The other nice thing with this 2.2 is the Mobile Access Point and USB tether are enabled and working. Don't be surprised if AT&T nerfs these in their release of 2.2. Seeing as how Verizon is charging $29.99 for the feature even if you have data plan.

Does the phone have to have USB debugging on before I do this, or be rooted or anything special.
Up to this point, this is a factory phone. No root, no mods, etc.
    Computer is Windows XP.

Just make sure that you have all of your USB drivers and the files listed in the directions. It's a pretty straightforward operation.

The hardest part I faced was getting the phone into download mode. Turns out that my phone is one of the revisions that has issues with it.
I ended up using the SDK to get into download mode and after that, it was a snap.

    Good luck!

It's becuase you're not doing it right.

You have to hold both volume rockers down, and plug in the USB. Always works for me.

2.2 did not fix my GPS. Still doesn't get a signal.
