Samsung S5660 Galaxy Gio Hands-on Review

Mobile World Congress, BARCELONA, Spain - The second smallest member of this new Android family is the Samsung Galaxy Gio, quite similar to the Ace. The device contains a touchscreen display measuring just 3.2" in diagonal length, and a resolution of 320x480 pixels, which puts it in direct collision course with the HTC Wildfire S, launched on the second day of the MWC 2011.

While we are comparing it to the Android smartphone from the Taiwanese tech-giant, it's also important to state the similar dimensions, positioned at 110.5 x 57.5 x 12.2mm for the Wildfire S, and 101.3 x 59.4 x 12.4mm for the Samsung model. The weight for the latter is unknown, but the HTC handset weighs 105g only, quite easy on the hand of the user.

A processor with 800MHz powers the handset, and that should be enough for the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system running on the device, especially with the reduced resolution and lack of HD recording - none expected at this price point.

Just like the other members of the new Galaxy family, it has a 1350mAh battery, a microSD memory card slot, GPS, Bluetooth, HDSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Customers will certainly have a tough time choosing between the Samsung S5660 and the Wildfire S, two handsets that excel in hardware and software.
