Thanks for the reply Ultradroid.
I have so far been reading various posts at xda forum plus other places and were reading as much as possible without getting a clear picture of what to do. Yes you are right the place seems to be a place for developers and not possible to ask noobie questions.

Simon, you have to take XDA with a grain of salt. On one hand, they are a tremendous asset to the entire Android community. They are cutting edge when it comes to rooting a new phone, unlocking a bootloader, roms, themes, kernels - you name it, they were the trailblazers who made it happen. On the other hand, they have a collective attitude that is really nasty. I say collective attitude because I'm personal friends with several of the developers over there and my friends are nice, pleasant, NORMAL guys, just like you and me.
There is an element - a faction, if you will - over there that has created an absolutely venomous attitude towards noobs and their questions. And that faction is running things right now. They view noobs and their questions as irritating distractions, and they view noobs in general as people who have no business on their sacred forums. It's a pain, but you have to play the game. Go there, look around and find a forum that interests you. Go to that forum and read, read, READ all the posts. If you have questions, bring them back here and ask them - our Rescue Squad guys will give you a polite answer without trying to tear your head off.
As I said, it's a great asset - just use it carefully.

I have had a good look at xda forum it seems a very active place with lots of suggestions, I have to give it some time to get to know it.
I have already taken backups of my user + system apps by Titanium, but my next step is to take a back up of ROM, in case something goes wrong so I can switch back to its stock ROM.
Use Google and add "XDA," read some posts to make sure it's reliable.

I never thought they were that harsh... xD As much as I've been to XDA, whether they're noobs or pros, they seemed either nice, polite, childish or stupid. Maybe I haven't been in the dark corner... :D

Do you think this version of Cyanogenmod 7.2 can be used to take a backup of my ROM? I am running Gingerbread version 2.3.6 even though it says its for version 2.3.7

I have already installed ClockWorkMod v 5.0.2.6 and followed the steps as it shows in the link you provided ( the 2 option), but I couldn't take a back up, and showing several comments like:
E: Can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open/cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount/cache/recovery/last-log
E: Can't open/cache/recovery/last-log
Now I am going to install a newer version v 5.0.2.7 and try to make a back up.
BTW, I found this link and it is linking to the same link I wrote. Do you think I can after I have taken a backup install this new ROM, even though it states it is for a higher version than I have?

I just proceeded with the latest version of that ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.7 but I couldn't make any backup, the same error as I earlier wrote showed up.
Any clue what could be the cause of error?
