Backup of Stock ROM
I want to make a backup of the ROM that is installed on my phone (Samsung Gio) because I want to flash it with another ROM, in case I flash it wrong. It has Gingerbread 2.3.6 and is rooted. I have already taken backup of the user + system apps.
thanks in advance.

Try ROM manager from the market. Easy to use and free

A word of caution. I am told by the Rescue Squad guys on Samsung Galaxy Forums that Rom Manager does not play well with Samsung products, and they strongly advise that you NOT install and use Rom Manager on you Samsung phones. Take that warning with a grain of salt if you like, but I heeded their advice on my SGS2 and have had absolutely no problems.

Thanks for the reply, I will keep in mind NOT to use ROM Manager. Isn't there a built in software in Android that does the complete backup?
How else do you take a backup?
Is it possible to download the Gingerbread from a reliable source?

You can use Rom Manager to install the latest ClockworkMod Recovery (like I did with my SGS2), and you can use it to reboot into recovery. Just don't use RM to actually DO the backups, restoring or installing of roms and themes. Use the CWM Recovery itself to perform those functions.

Android has a stock backup service, but it does not backup everything. UltraDroid answered your second question (or you can use Titanium Backup). And to answer the third question - yes, you can find something on XDA forums. Sorry, a bit too tired and lazy (or just lazy) to get a link for you. You'll find it.

I have found this link through Google, I have downloaded the CWM file as it claims, but it doesn't explain how to use it only that it should be done with Odin. At the end of the page it gives a code but not sure where and how to enter it.

I have had a good look at xda forum it seems a very active place with lots of suggestions, I have to give it some time to get to know it.
I have already taken backups of my user + system apps by Titanium, but my next step is to take a back up of ROM, in case something goes wrong so I can switch back to its stock ROM.

Just be careful about posting on the XDA Forum. Those guys can turn REALLY nasty in a heartbeat if you ask what *they* consider to be a dumb question. Avoid asking any questions at all in a dedicated "Developer's Forum" (unless you are a developer yourself), or they'll want to burn you at the stake.
