Samsung Now Rolling Out Galaxy S Gingerbread Update In European Countries

Samsung yet again has proven that they have no problems updating their phones, contrary to popular belief. The upgrade to Android 2.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S is now rolling out for certain European users. We’re sure this only applies to unbranded devices as carrier-branded devices will have to wait until said carriers decide to push it out. (Though European carriers seem to be much quicker with this stuff than us yanks.) This one’s only going out in Germany and Holland as far as we can tell, but we’re sure those in the UK, France, Spain, and the other tons of European countries out there won’t be left out for too long.

I love how people will still blame Samsung for them not getting their updates...

That's the thing...as compared to what? AFAIK, only the 'Google Experience' phones get the earliest updates, so in the grand scheme, Samsung hasn't fared too poorly among the rest.

Indeed. But people think it's Samsung that delays them getting their updates in the US, when in reality it's the carriers... There were around 36 different builds of Froyo for the international spec GT-i9000, going all the way back to last September, and the American carriers are just now getting around to rolling theirs out because they have to bake in their bloatware.

Google handsets will always get updates first, but there's no reason for it to take as long as it did here in the states. Unlocked OEM devices are always supported by their OEM, and usually get updates in a timely fashion.

I might add Finland to that group. I received my Gingerbread late last Saturday. April 16th, that is. I might've waited a few days more to have a decent translation though. The Finnish translation is a careless one, some of the 'cancel' texts seem to have been left...

It won't be coming to any of the US carriers anytime soon. Especially the CDMA carriers.
