Notifications Remain Even Though They Are Read

Hi, got my Galaxy S2 only a week ago and loving it, however I have a small niggle that I hope someone can shed some light on. Whenever I recieve a text the icon shows a 1 then i read the message and return to the home screen but the message icon still shows a 1, same applies to emails and social network icons, my email icon currently shows 13 but i have no unread emails. Any help please?

Other than trying a factory reset, try replacing the affected apps with others from the Play Store or Amazon App Store to see if you can fix the issue. You also might like the new apps better.

Try: Handcent/GoSMS for texting, K9Mail for e-mail. I can't help with the others, though, as I don't do social networking outside of Twitter. I use TweetCaster Pro for that.

Thanks for the reply, may give them a go, would really prefer to cure the issue though

If it solves the problem it cures it. But I know what you mean and that will require an update from Samsung. As the phone just got released there WILL be some bugs that will need quashing. Luckily, as the phone WAS just released there should be an update shortly. One of the prices we pay for the short development cycle and all the awesome new hardware and features is that they can't stress-test every single feature for months on finalized software to make sure there are no twitches. However, I think the price we pay is worth what we get in return, don't you? :D

Reboot to clear what you currently have "stuck" in notifications.
I'm not sure how to keep them from accumulating again, though.

And I think you would really like GoSMS.

My apologies on misreading your post. I just spent several hours on an S3 forum helping someone who had the exact same problem on their S3 and who was rather less cooperative or grateful. Have you checked for an update to your phone? Some of them require checking via Kies since not all updates are pushed out OTA.

What carrier do you have? The version for their make of the phone may require a slightly different update process.

I am on Three UK, it seems there are no updates at all and the problem still remains.
