Question in regards to rooting and rom for vibrant

Since I am new to rooting, roms, etc, what is the safest way to root and the best custom roms to explore on a vibrant with latest updates and froyo?
I would love to retain the ap function as that is my favorite feature of froyo.

I would recommend that for rooting you try z4root first. Just make sure USB Debugging is turned on. It's available in the downloads section here. If that fails then there may be other options.

I don't know what ROMs are available for your device, but if you want to look into it I'm sure you'll find out fairly quickly.

for the Vibrant i would use super one click to to root! Because the 2.2 roms are so much slicker and faster with the new improved voodoo kernel they have. Im runnning bionix v 1.3 with ginger red theme its sick looking and a super mario 3 boot animation....LOL ROOTING FTW

I have the official update to 2.2 I was simply wondering what else was out there and trying to decide if I wanted to explore. I have decided to leave it as is until I get a new one.

At Movieaddict's post as well: for the Vibrant i would use super one click to to root! Because the 2.2 roms are so much slicker and faster with the new improved voodoo kernel they have. I just rooted my friends extra Vibrant yesterday. If you downloaded and installed the 2.2 that Samsung released on January 21st of this year then I want to let you know they have blocked Super One Click. The way I had to root it was, flash the old true 2.1 rom to the phone using Odin and then you can use Rom Manager and Super User. It took about an hour to follow the directions and get it working. Had to stop to pick up daughter from school. I am running Darky's Rom on it. Runs smooth so far. I will probably just cook my own though.
