Question In the market, looking for experienced users

Leaving the "story" out, I'm in the market and narrowed it down to the following SPRINT handsets: Evo Shift, Epic and Optimus S. Could you please weigh in if you have/had any of these, on the items listed below. Any first-hand experience is appreciated. I'm coming from the world of not-so-smart phones (LG Rumor2), so please bear with me.
I've gone through the users manuals and for the most part, didn't get clear answers on these last few points.

If 2.1 is native, can I get upgraded to 2.2 for free?

    My deal breakers are:
    * Ease/difficulty to get used to an on-screen qwerty? Does Swype help?

    * Can/Does the phone (specify if an App or widget is needed to do):
    1. set up contact groups?
      1. for all members at once, not one-at-a-time?
    2. choose ringer for:
      1. individual contacts?
      2. individual CALENDAR items (reminders/events/appts/alarms)
    3. choose vibrate pattern for:
      1. individual contacts?
      2. individual CALENDAR items (reminders/events/appts/alarms)?
    4. have flexible reminders of Calendar items with snooze?
    5. have flexible recurring entries (e.g., Once, Daily, M-F, Select Days, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly, Every [3] days, [2] weeks or [4] months)?
    6. have an AUDIBLE (more than just a "ding" plus VIBRATE notification of calendar, text/VM)?
Finally, please speak a bit to the following:
    • Ease of synchronizing Outlook (no Exchange) and/or Google Calendar to Handset?
    • Have you found ANY way to get color coding of entries in Google Calendar, (like Outlook), and bring that color coding to the handset?
I'm looking forward to hearing about your collective experience.
    Many thanks in advance,

    SJM

Any 2.2 upgrades are at the whim of the carrier and manufacturer. Unless you root and decide to ROM the phone, in which case it depends on 3rd-party developers and how locked the phone is. Your best bet is to contact Sprint or the handset's MRF and ask them if there's a planned 2.2 upgade/update.

Beyond that I can't be of any help, but if you do the above it might help narrow down your choices. Good luck and enjoy your new phone when you get it!

    Shopping, need advice, please!

I'm looking at [SPRINT] EVO Shift, SS Epic and LG Optimus S. Don't need 4G but absolutely need the most flexible Calendar possible. Please weigh in on these questions if you have or have first-hand experience with any of these three phones.
    Can/Does the phone:
    * set up a contact group, and set a ringer of my choice to all members at once?
    * assign ringer (incl. d/l ringers) to individual contacts?
    * assign ringer to individual CALENDAR entries/reminders?
    * assign vibrate pattern of my choice to individual contacts?
    * assign vibrate pattern of my choice to individual CALENDAR entries/reminders?
    * have flexible advance reminders of Calendar entries (# min, # hrs, # days...) with repeating snooze?
    * have really flexible recurring Calendar entries(including every nth wk/mth/yr)?
    * how involved is synchronizing Outlook (no exchange) and/or Google Calendar to the Handset, *WITHOUT* syncing Outlook contacts. I want them totally separate.
    * Is there ANY way to get color coding of entries in Google Calendar, and by extension, sync that colorful callendar to the handset?
I've been all over, and just haven't seen any of these items addressed. I'm looking forward to hearing your collective experience.
    Thanks in advance,
    SJM
