Verizon 3G speed is now 8.1 Mbps.
Thus why I am waiting for the Verizon-compatible Nexus One.
Or at least that's what I read here: (by search result I hate Apple~!!!)

I don't know about that. That is only one person's result from a 3g test, which is not correct 100% of the time. Check this out.

I should probably let you know that we are working on a 21mbps rollout ^_^ Currently it's only in philly, but it is ever so nice for the people there, haha.

I think the article said mid year, but Jaredu might know more.

Not quite positive... According to the schedule from what I can understand we're supposed to expand 3g to some of the rural areas around austin around march (my area) and I've picked up 3g a couple of times while they were doing testing..

As far as for houston I don't have an exact timeframe, if it's slated for mid-year it's probably coming, they are doing testing in a ton of places just waiting to flip the switch from what I hear =)

Just because Verizon said they upgraded their speeds doesn't mean every area with Verizon coverage has those blazing speeds.

Nice. I was half joking with the question and really didn't expect much of an answer but it's nice to know that they're working on improving 3G service in the area. I'm in the Sugarland/Richmond area and we get 3G way out here but only just I think as certain areas inside the house and in some large buildings (movie theater for example) the signal fluctuates between weakish 3G and strong Edge. Another 10 miles or so to the SW and I think we'd be all Edge all the time.

    So far so good though.
