Xperia Play Emulation guide
This thread will contain information regarding emulation and the Xperia Play. This will not contain any information where to obtain roms.
Arcade MAME:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(FREE)* TigerArcade(MAME) : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Full version is FREE.
Supports CSP1, CSP2, and Neogeo emulation.
Common Issue:
Neogeo bios is needed to emulate Neogeo arcade games. Place the Neogeo bios zip file in the same folder as your Neogeo roms.
Example Video:
*(PAID)* CPS2HD : https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Confirmed to work on the Xperia Play without hardware button support. (unless someone knows how to map the hardware buttons, dev has not responded to emails) Full version is $4.99.
*(FREE)* MAME4droid/iMAME4all : http://code.google.com/p/imame4all/
MAME4droid is a version of iMAME4all (iPhone, iPad) for Android, developed also by David Valdeita (Seleuco).
They emulate arcade games supported by original MAME 0.37b5 plus some additional games from newer MAME versions.
This version emulates over 2000 different romsets.
Atari-2600:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* Ataroid : https://slideme.org/application/ataroid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
GameBoy Advance:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* GameBoid : https://slideme.org/application/gameboid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
*(FREE)* TigerGBA : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support.
GameBoy Color:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* GBCoid : https://slideme.org/application/gbcoid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
*(FREE)* TigerGBC : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support.
Game Gear:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* Gearoid : https://slideme.org/application/gearoid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
Genesis:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* GENsoid : https://slideme.org/application/gensoid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
*(FREE)* Tiger Genesis/MD game emulator : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Full version is FREE.
Common Issue:
Roms won't show up in menu or won't work. Make sure you either store your ROMS in the default folder (sdcard\roms\genesis) or un-check "Quick ROM search" in the settings. It's probably better to store Genesis ROMS in the default folder because other non-ROM files contain the same extensions which will be picked up by the broad search and shown in the menu. Those files will obviously not work because they are not actual ROMS.
NES:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* Nesoid : https://slideme.org/application/nesoid
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
*(FREE)* TigerNES/FC : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support.
Nintendo 64:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* N64oid : https://slideme.org/application/n64oid
Confirmed to work on the Xperia play with hardware button support. May have to map buttons often depending on the games you play. Compatibility is low, but dev promised future updates to improve compatibility. Paid app that is currently temporarily free due to issues with Google and the Android Market.
*(FREE)* Mupen64plus : http://www.paulscode.com/forum/index.php?topic=60.0
Ported by Paul Lamb. The goal of this project is to develop a fully open-source Nintendo 64 emulator for Android, that is true to the official Mupen64Plus 2.0 API and compatible on a wide variety of devices and architectures.
Nintendo DS:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(FREE)* TigerNDS : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work but not very well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. It is only a demo and not for general use.
PlayStation - PSX or PS1:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(PAID)* FPse : https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Arguably the best Android PlayStation 1 emulator that has high compatibility with hardware button support. Bios is not included with the app. Full version is about $5.23.
Common issue:
Setting aren't being saved. Make sure to save settings by selecting "Default config save" in the system menu.
Compatible Games List:
[GUIDE] FPSE Compatible games UPDATED 30/05/11 - xda-developers
System Settings INFO:
- MDEC Acceleration - help speed up emulation of MDEC movies.
- GTE Acceleration - Geometry transformation engine, used for the 3D graphics
- HLE Mode - High-level emulation (HLE) is an approach for construction of emulators, especially for video game consoles, which attempts to simulate the response of the system rather than accurately recreating its internal design. HLE is meant to run games without using a bios. If you load a bios, disable HLE, it is usually slower and may lead to save games problems. Starting in HLE may not be a good idea, many games can't start in this mode.
- Boost Mode - it works only once a Bios is selected and HLE is turned off.
Example Video:
Many games will have minor glitches but will still be VERY playable. For example, Star Ocean: Second Story has issues with the main title screen, but in-game it appears to run just fine.
*(FREE)* psx4droid : ZodTTD: Home Of Homebrew | psx4droid
PSX4Droid 3.0.6 currently WILL NOT work on the Xperia Play. There is an issue that will possibly be fixed in future versions. Full version is now FREE.
*(FREE)* PSXPERIA : Comes loaded as the Crash Bandicoot emulated game
This is the reverse-engineering effort of Sony Ericsson's native PS1 emulator.
To use PSXPERIA see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1201532
Guide to increase compatibility:

If for some reason you need the original Crash APK see this thread to find all original Xperia Play APK's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1201725
*DISCLAIMER* It is possible that the 2.3.4 update "breaks" PSXPERIA, reports are saying that people cannot run it anymore once they update.
*(FREE)* TigerPSone : http://apps.tigerplay.net/
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support.
Scumm - ScummVM:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(FREE)* ScummVM : https://market.android.com/details?id=org.inodes.gus.scummvm
Physical directional arrows confirmed to work. Other hardware buttons do not have support yet.
ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion (SCUMM) is a scripting language developed at LucasArts (known at the time as Lucasfilm Games) to ease development of the graphical adventure game Maniac Mansion. Plugins are available for different games.
Plugins available here : https://market.android.com/search?q=scummvm&so=1&c=apps
SNES:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*(FREE)* Snes9x EX : https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
Confirmed to work well on the Xperia Play with hardware button support. Full version is FREE.
Common Issue:
There are issues with mapping the circle button. Go to the options menu -> key config, scroll all the way down and unmap "EXIT" from the back key. Currently the circle button registers as the back button.

I want to recommend a few other emulators.
SNesoid, Gensoid, Nesoid, GameBoid.
All these are made by Yongzh and have been around for quite a long time (though Gensoid recently got taken off the market) I can confirm that all 4 of these emulators receive updates regularly and are very compatible. SNesoid is currently more compatible than Snes9x EX currently but mostly due to it being out for much longer to have more bug fixes. Though Sne9x EX is pretty close and it's almost impossible to tell them apart at times.
Of course these are just what I use, there's at least 5-6 different emulators for each classic system so try them out and find one that works for you.

Yeah after being on the market for over 2 years and being one of the most stable and popular emulators, they took him off the market this morning....same day the Xperia Play officially came out.....I wonder if that's a coincidence.

Yeah it just sucks. He was around making emulators for Android before there even was a popular Android. Some people complained because he charged money but in the end he was doing work no one else would. Now there's so many other emulators out there that he just isn't given justice for how much work and effort he put into his emulators. He's provided so many bug fixes and performance enhancements over the years that his emulators were and still are beyond all the other ones on the market.
Such a shame. So far the only news I've heard is that he is looking into 3rd party app stores like slide-me.

Xperia Lurker
I highly recommend doing a search for GBCoid Lite - B & W original tetris

Hairdewx, you can you update your post with a link to Yongzh's Slideme app store? https://slideme.org/en/user/3168/applications/3168
Also you should put GBCoid and Gearoid for Game Boy Color and Game Gear, I can confirm those both work good with hardware button support.
